Exam Prep: Costs For Students Who May Not Be As Smart As Others

fundraiser

It seems as though the cost of Medical Board Exams in many states has greatly increased over the recent years. The sad thing is that it is not like this is a one time spike, but rather a continual increase. Many state health departments have been giving hints that the cost of licensing and taking the exam will continue to increase even more in the upcoming year due to the economy, which is understandable. In some states, the exam prep costs for Medical Board Exams have doubled in the past two years alone.

Unfortunately, cost plays the largest role in exam costs across the board, which means the cost of becoming a certified medial doctor, has also gone up over the past few years. While cost of course is always an important factor to consider when choosing a profession, especially when it comes to something as important as becoming a licensed medical doctor, some states have been hit harder than others. Many states have had recent increases in their Medical Board Certification fees, which means medical students are paying more for their education. States like Montana have recently implemented a fee structure which allows students to pay a fee rather than the state for certification after the first year of study. While some states have a couple of scholarships available to those who may not be able to afford the fee structure, most states now require student to take out student loans in order to pay for their education.

So how does all of this affect the aspiring medical students? Well, one is left to wonder what the future holds for the medical industry in general, especially in the United States. The current administration is looking to cut the budget of the Department of Health and Human Services by about 40%. Cutting this department only leaves the smaller medical centers and hospitals in the great American nation with less funding for things like exam prep, continuing education and other important aspects that are necessary to maintain licensure. So it is quite possible that the government’s cuts to the medical exam prep industry will increase costs for students who are preparing for a career as physicians.
